JollyDogs notional plan, 11 May 19

As of May 11th, 2019, here’s our first cut at a notional “where the hell is JollyDogs planning to be” schedule. If you’re thinking of coming for a visit or sailing in our direction for an eventual rendezvous, please know that this is obviously subject to change. For visitors, anyone coming and going will be flying to Papeete on Tahiti, then taking a local flight to wherever we happen to be. Many of the islands and atolls have airstrips, so we’ll generally be accessible. We’d love to see you, but you’ll have to be “flexible”. So with all the legal disclaimers now in place, here’s what we’re thinking today:

· Wander about Nuku Hiva until late May
· Depart for Tuamotus late May
· Arrive Tuamotus early June
· Depart Tuamotus late July
· Arrive Society Island group early August
· Short visit to Papeete to collect carte de sejour for Mark, begin US passport renewal process for both of us
· Remain in Society Island chain (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) until early November
· Schedule 2 week trip to Southwestern USA sometime in October, securing JollyDogs in a Papeete marina for that time
· Depart early November to return to the Marquesas
· Enjoy the Marquesas festival on Nuku Hiva in early December. This is apparently a pretty killer cultural opportunity.
· Figure out what’s next. . .

We’re aiming for about 2 years in French Polynesia, and hope to link up with close friends on Totem, Sheawater, Sea Rose, and Strange Byrds somewhere around here in 2020. We want to find our way to the Gambiers at some point, perhaps during the next cyclone season. The whole of French Polynesia is approved by our insurance provider throughout cyclone season; that said prudence suggests that the Marquesas or Gambiers are the lowest risk portions of the entire region.
