Our Marquesas whistle stop tour is complete for now. No worries, our evil plan is to return for several months of cyclone season and hopefully also get down to the Gambiers for a few months. As usual, we write our plans in the sand at low tide. . .

We’ve been reading that the Tuamotus can begin to get a little wooly in July so we’ve decided to spend at least 5-6 weeks bouncing around several of the easier atolls in the archipelago, then of course we’ll hope to spend more time at some of the more remote atolls next year. For now we’re off to Kauehi, about a 500 nm journey from our lovely spot on Ua Pou. We’ll have to avoid one tiny atoll along the way, but that’s still 400 nm away.

For now we’re moving along smartly under full main and jib, averaging more than 6 knots since our departure at 1500 local time. The rest of the numbers:

Position: S09 36.3’ W140 08.4’
COG 209 mag, SOG 6+ kts
TWS 10.5 kts, TWD 097 mag
Seas fairly flat off the port beam, up to ½ meter

It’s a lovely night with just a few leftover puffy clouds, stars coming out, Mr. Moon not due up until after midnight. All is well on JollyDogs!
