reasonably benign squalls. JollyDogs got a good douche to wash some salt away,
but no fire, no brimstone
We’re
merrily blasting along with reef 1 in the main. Been that way since yesterday
after lunch, and we’ve averaged 6.5 knots. Seas are 1 to 2 meters on the stern
so it’s not rolly, a little hurky jerky at times when a sneaker hits us from an
angle, but at least it’s astern. We’re going fast and we like it.
Most
husbands would pay homage with flowers, a lovely dinner evening out, perhaps a
cup of tea with the morning paper along with breakfast in bed, huh Rob?
I’m
not really too good at this sort of thing, but I did throw one hell of a
surprise birthday party for her 40th. Big crowd of close friends, catered
dinner by the same lovely folks that catered our wedding years before. Great
booze, great food, great friends, you could feel the love.
Can’t
really pull that off today. Can’t take Isabel out for a nice meal, and no
drinking underway, so the champagne will have to remain in the fridge. Matter
of fact, I don’t think we have champagne anywho. We do have some killer high
end tequila however, a lovely parting gift from Ralph and Helen Marx on our
sister boat Moondrifter. They’re amazing folks, and in many ways we idolize
them. We may bust that out at the equator to make King Neptune an offering.
I
can make Isabel a tank of hot water. She’ll get to be profligate with it,
enjoying a nice long hot shower, a luxury at sea. We’ll bust out the fruit cake
that Behan Gifford taught her how to make, then made it for us anyway. There’s
most of a bottle of rum in that bad boy. . .
We’ll
also bust out the Iridium Go telephone feature so she can call her dad, an
amazing and highly accomplished sailor himself who has offered so much
encouragement for this voyage. Bummer he can’t be here in person, but he sure
did have his day at sea.
Isabel
was born to do this. We recently celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary, and I
don’t think I’ve ever seen her happier or more in her element than the last few
days. Salt water runs in her veins. . .
Feel
free to drop Isabel an email today and wish her “the happiest of happy birthdays”
as I once heard Prince Charles say to his mum on some BBC show. It’ll make her
special day even better. We get email through our Iridium Go satellite
communications system at:
Happy
Birthday Isabel!
