And
sometimes the bear gets you. Well, we’ve played a bit of dodge ball with the
last little zig zag in our route, trying to avoid several areas of adverse
current. Worked for a while, but right now we’re getting kicked in the teeth by
almost a full knot on the bow. Brings our long endurance motoring speed on flat
water down from 5.8 knots to something a lot less. Might not seem like much,
but when it’s the other way round and we’re tooling along across the sea at
almost 7 knots, it really puts a smile on our faces.
At
least the seas are flat, the air temperature perfect, and (knock on wood)
everything seems to be working well. Mr Weather promises a wind fill on the
stern by mid-day, so perhaps in another six to eight hours we can shut off the
carbon burning noise maker and enjoy the soothing sounds of the wind and sails
creating “propulsion”.
No
islands to hit, no AIS targets in 2 days, no radar targets, no squalls forecast
in the area, nada out there but a lot of water. Fresh cup of coffee in my hand.
Not so bad after all.
