As
the apparent wind approached 20 knots (our reef speed with the old main), the
seas on the starboard bow made for one rough butt ride. Sooooo, we threw in the
first reef of the trip, and honestly didn’t slow down much, but the ride
quality got a lot nicer and JollyDogs felt a bit less like a bucking bronco.
We’re
pleased with our speed and progress towards our first waypoint, now less than
97 nm away. Hopefully we’ll find ourselves in the vicinity of the Socorro
Islands during daylight tomorrow and if we’re really lucky we’ll see pods of
whales and some honkin’ big manta rays!
Major
confusion today as our crewman Thad’s fancy Garmin watch noted we were now in
the Pacific time zone, a sudden change of 2 hours. Captain Mark made the
decision to roll the ship’s clock and adjust the darn watch schedule. Big
decisions abound!
Well,
the sun is out, the Pacific is a beautiful shade of deep blue, and it’s time to
enjoy the day! As Jimmy Buffet might sing, “the weather is here, I wish you
were beautiful”!
If
you’re still in La Cruz, go to the Sunday market and buy some of that killer
good Chilean bread. It’s the bomb!
